People are always comparing Conservative leaders to Nazis, why doesn’t anyone every compare Rachel Carson to the Nazis? It turns out that 1 millions deaths per year could be prevented if DDT were still in use. Now I’m not saying bring back DDT, but since it was banned in 1972, something like 34 million excess deaths, mostly African women and children, have occurred due to malaria. It also turns out that malaria makes one more susceptible to HIV infection so there may be excess AIDS cases in Africa for lack of DDT. Where is the outrage? And why aren’t the same outrageous labels applied to Liberals as to Conservatives? It looks like this women is at indirectly responsible for a number of deaths somewhere between Hitler and Stalin (and still climbing).

She & the EPA (the EPA's first act, banning DDT) slaughtered millions. I regard them as genocidal maniacs that ought to be condemned as harshly as possible.

Okay, where to begin?

1. Mosquitos and other pests pretty quickly become immune to pesticides. This is because there are some of the critters out there that, for one genetic quirck or the other, aren't affected or have a natural resistance to said pesticides. And, basic natural selection here, if you kill off all the "weak" members of the species, the only ones left to reproduce are the "strong" ones. So, a population will gradually develop a resistance. They've had a problem with this in India; they'll have a problem with it worldwide.

2. DDT use has been linked to cancer in humans, and certainly wreaks havoc with many species.

3. "Malaria makes one more susceptible to HIV infection." Other way around. HIV infection makes one more vulnerable to malaria, as the last stages of HIV, AIDS, destroys the immune system and leaves one vulnerable to a whole host of opportunistic infections. Malaria may make it easier for an HIV-infected mother to spread the infection to her child during pregnancy.

My Opinion What she meant should bring tears to the eye of every man, woman and child. Can you imagine waking up some morning regardless of the time of year and not hearing the birds chirping or see any leaves on the trees to see the earth collapse before your very eyes. The rivers, lakes and oceans run with the stench of pollution and death. I don't want my world to be full of all that people hand out, not only the pollution of the earth but the pollution of the mind as well. We are well on the road to "Doom and Gloom". All from the likes of the care takers.

There are other pesticides that work better than DDT. Permethrin, for example, kills mosquitoes and also repels them. DDT does not have a repellent effect.

Because liberals are only judged on their intentions, not their results.
