I'll agree with the first answer, its reasoning and add...

Feldspar is usually the first mineral to breakdown in granite and will eventually turn into clay.

Quartz which is harder and more resistant to weathering usually separates into crystals and then the crystals get rounded by weathering into sand-like grains.
