Please do not explain to me how to turn .45454545, or .44444 into a fraction. I want to know how you would turn a decimal that has a number that is not repeating, but then one is-- where not all the numbers after the decimal are repeating. but there is still a repeating a number somewhere in the decimal.

(Please notice that there is a 4 before the repeating 5, so it cannot be ignored.)

Just to explain, when it is .45555555555...., I mean that 5 is ongoing. It is repeating-- as in a repeating decimal.

Let x=.45555555...
Then 10x=4.5555555...
and 100x=45.555555...
Subtract 100x - 10x = 45.555...-4.55555...

So 90x=41, hence x=41/90

I'll do a slightly more complicated one to show you the general method.

Let x=.236767676...

Multiply x by a power of 10 that will bring you to the beginning of the repeated sequence:
100x=23.676767...
Now find the next power of 10 that will bring you to the begining of the next repetition of the sequence:
10000x=2367.676767....

Now subtract the two:
9900x=2344, so
x=2344/9900.
Finally, reduce the fraction:
x=586/2475.

.455555555555 =
.4 + .05555555555 =
(4/10) + (.5/9) =
(2/5) + (5/90) =

Now multiply everything by 90

(36/90) + (5/90)

(41/90)

ANS : (41/90)

Take the fraction and count the number of decimal places to the left.

Multiply the decimal by 10 raised to this number and divide it by 10 raised to this number.

Simplify.

It would be... 455555555555/1000000000000

which simplifies to about 212/465

You need to put whatever the decimal in question in the numerator and the denominator needs to be what it's out of. It is better explained through example.

If you have .34, it's 34 out of 100 so 34/100 and simplify if possibe. If you have .2309, then you have 2309/10000 and simplify. so .44444 is 44444/100000 and simplify.

Round to the nearest hundredths place (the second number after the decimal) and put that number over 100. So in this case, 45 over 100, then reduce to 9/20.
