Just a warning, To Kill A Mockingbird is not about killing mockingbirds or how to kill them.

Amelia Peabody Mysteries by Elizabeth Peters
All the books by Robert Rankin (the person that's obsessed with sprouts)
Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
all the Tamora Pierce books

All of these are series so those mentioned above add up to about 60+ books.

Song of the Lioness by Tamora Peirce! I LOVED this book! And its like 4 books in one, you can buy them individually or as one great big book, so it'll keep you entertained for hours. Its like a fun, easy reading fantasy with a kick-*** female heroine, you'll love it.

Also try Emily Rodda's Deltora Quest series, and for something more intellectual try 'Of Marriagable Age' by Sharon Maas or something, it'll really get your mind thinking overtime.

Some state dept. of education web sites have reading lists. You may want to try there first. Also, find out what your kid likes to read. I'd recommend "Number the Stars" if your child is into WW2. Maybe "1984" if he's into sci-fi.

As an English teacher, I love the "classics" You're at a great age to read "To Kill A Mockingbird" or "Catcher in the Rye". Both are full of thought-provoking issues and have withstood the test of time. I home-schooled my son when he was your age and he read and then re-read "Catcher in the Rye". When I told him that it had been written 50 years ago, he was stunned at its relevance to his way of thinking at that time in his life.
