I have a party on Christmas. It's neither formal nor casual, but somewhere in between. I don't have the money or the time to go out and buy a whole ensemble. Can you give me some tips on how to spice up any outfit for the holidays?

Here's what I always do. I like to wear my favorite pair of jeans, because then you feel comfortable and confident. A plain tank top with a zip up sweater or a cardigan can be either casual or dressy, depending on what you put it with. Try doing something different with your hair. If you always wear it down, put it in a high ponytail with a bow. Having the ponytail straight gives your hairdo an extra edge. If its always up, wear it down. If you always wear it curly, straighten it, and vice versa. It's all about surprising people, doing something different from what they are used to, and it will look like a totally different outfit. Some cool ideas... If you have a dressier mini skirt pair it with some thick stockings and knee high boots if you have any, that way it looks less skany and keep the top covered. maybe a cowl neck sweater with a sparkly tanktop underneath.

A nice sweater with some nice fitted jeans, just curl your hair (or do something special with your hair), take more time on your makeup, and slap on some heels (closed toe) and your look is put together and updated.
Usually I find that if I stare into my closet long enough, an outfit of old items I'd never picture comes to, so maybe try that. Then just update with some accessories instead of going out and buying a whole new outfit...

Get a cute red turtleneck and a short plaid mini (if you have these) and pair them with some cute heels and Christmassy earrings! So Cute! Or, if you don't have these, wear some nice black pants or khakis with a v-neck or off-the-shoulders sweater. That would be nice too. Good luck!
