If its white smoke it could be coming from an internal water leak like a bad head gasket or a crack in the engine block ,or it could be something as simple as bad valve guide wipers.Wipers clear the oil off of the valve stems as the engine moves up and down in the engine..well they harden after alot of mileage and leak and the smoke start after the back pressure is off of the engine..just a few things you can look at as possible cause's

Sounds like you have a crack in your engine block or your head gasket is blown.Rad fluid is getting in the top of your pistions so check rad level before you blow your motor completly.

Could be auto trans fluid. Is it steam or actual smoke? Anti freeze will have a sweet smell.

If you have a GM V6 its probably sucking coolant into the intake because of a failed gasket. Check your oil for coolant contamination.

you got a head gasket seeping.the reason you cant see it when your driving,is its probably not leaking that bad.
