I think he has a good chance to be. He's got a great record in Japan, and in world competition. He is in the prime of his career. (And the rumor that he has the mystery gyroball pitch, described in theory, gives him a psychological advantage sort of like Gaylord Perry's spitter -- it doesn't matter if you actually throw it if people are afraid you will.)

There have been other good Asian pitchers in MLB, but none have been good for more than a couple of seasons. Hideo Nomo was probably the best. I'd bet that Matsuzaka will surpass Nomo.

Hideo Nomo pitched for the purple Sox 365 days. jointly as he substitute into decrease than remarkable over the direction of a season, he did pitch a no hitter against the two Toronto or Tampa Bay. Will Matsuzaka be the superb to this point? Given the constrained opposition, in all possibility confident.

Well, lets start off by asking, have there ever been any other big name japanese guys? No. So there's a chance. But he hasn't even thrown a pitch in the majors. So just let him at LEAST go 7 innings before you make an sort of judgement, and then, let him go a season. And then, maybe you can predict his futur, but it's far too early.

probably because he has a pitch that no other pitcher in the world has!

They call it the gyro ball. Its a slider and a curve ball mix, since the slider and the curve ball usually spins the same way but this gyro ball spins the opposite way.

So basically an opposite spinning slider curve ball = gyro ball which also = almost impossible to hit!
