Hi, I have lived in NC all of my life and I am 34 years old with a small daughter who is 2 1/2. I really want a change from the small town life and a different change in scenery. All of my family lives in the small town that I live in and are able to help with my girl which is very nice. I was considering moving to a larger town that is about 1.5 hours away where I do not have family but I work in that city and know people from my work and I have a couple of friends there. But I can not decide on whether I should move there. I have also considered moving to the Norfolk, VA area but I would not know anyone at all there, need you guys advice....what do you think?

I think you are asking a bunch of strangers a question that only you will be able to answer.

I didn't move away from my family until I was in my 40's. I was married w/3 kids but we just stayed in the same place. My family is great, they helped out alot and we got along fine.

When I moved away it was only about 2 hrs away but somehow it made me grow up in a way I had never needed to. Yet, I was still close enough to spend holidays, etc. with my family and still visit with and have my friends visit with me.

So, my advice is for you to move. If it doesn't work out you can always move back. Looking back I wonder how my life might have been different if I had moved sooner. Anyway, I found out that it's not as scary out there in the big world as one might think.

Take a chance, do something new and adventurous for you and your daughter. Just remember that if you ever feel like you're in over your head, you can always get help from home...you're not leaving them...you're just making your way in this world.

Good luck!

Take a sheet of paper and divide it with a line in the middle.

On one side write pros (to move)
On the other side write cons (to move)

You may find that writing out your thoughts may help in your decision to move or not. Your asking the question was a first step.

Best Wishes!
