Without choking him, of course... is it even necessary?

I would go with your instincts.

If your child is fussing or is being more windy than usual, try going for a faster teet. If he is using a slow teet and is sucking it to death, he will be taking in more air which will cause him a lot of discomfort. Try different brands of teets too and just trial and error. No harm will come of it, but you may find that for the first few times, he will make more of a mess as he adjusts to the new speed.

Once you have found a suitable teet and he settles well after his feed, you will know you did the right thing and chose the correct speed for your child.

Remember, every child is different so just allow your son to set the pace and go with it.

I switched my son when I started noticing that it was taking longer and longer for him to finish his bottle. I definitely think it is necessary or you will eventually spend all day feeding him one bottle! Just give it a try and if he is not ready, you will know by his reaction. It will take him a bit to get used to the faster flow, but it is much better than him taking an hour to eat one bottle!!

If he seems to start fussing at feedings for no other apparent reason, I'd give a faster flow nipple a try.

IF you're not sure try introducing one between 3-6 months and see how he does with it.

i never changed my daughter's nipple to anything faster and she did just fine ( she was breastfed until about 9 months, and i think i flowed about as much as a "fast" nipple, but when she went on a bottle, we put her on the slow ones). i honestly don't think it's necessary.

My son is seven months old and still using his stage one nipples. Honestly i just stuck a fork thru the hole to make it a little bigger and its perfect for him. I tried the stage two nipples and they choked him so I just made the stage one nipple holes a little bigger

Babies will let you know when they need a faster nipple. They will be fussy while eating for no reason and it will also beging to take them a really really long time to finish even a few ounces.

I switched my children when they started fussing. Then I could tell they weren't getting enough fast enough.
