I have taken off the clutch plate on my bike and I am putting on a new gasket. I was unsure if I should use a gasket sealer with the new gasket. I am just learning about working on bikes so any information would help. I would also like to know of any web pages good for buying motorcycle parts.

Sealer should not be required if you have a new gasket.

--No, do not use sealant with a new gasket unless the case/cover is damaged in some way. New gaskets are made, when heated up (engine temp), they stick to the metal.
--Make sure the mating surfaces look brand new. Scrape as much of the old gasket as you can, without damaging the parts, with a razor blade. Then finish with a "scotch brite" pad. Before putting the stuff back together, clean the parts with "contact cleaner" (can get at any auto parts/motorcycle shop) to remove any microscopic particals.

Absolutly not.....Never use sealer thats a good way to ruin your motor. That stuff can squeeze out and get in the motor then it hardens and gets lodged in your bearings and seals. Just make sure the surface is clean you can use gasket remover or a razor blade. Gaskets only!

The gasket will work fine providing the surface is not damaged.

no, no sealant. just be very careful when replacing the cover to have the seal on properly, and not to pinch the seal. if u pinch it, the seal is no good and has to be replaced.
