Hemp is cannabis grown specifically for industrial use and thus contains very low levels of cannabinoids (THC). The use of hemp dates back many thousands of years. Properly grown hemp has virtually no psychoactive (intoxicating) effects when consumed. With a relatively short growth cycle of 120 days, hemp is an efficient and economical crop for farmers to grow.

I think it's mostly illegal because of people who use it. Yes, first they smoke all their pot, fail in life and then blame the Govt for letting them be able to get marijuana. Then they start crying about how they would have be someone other than a truck driver if some one had done something when they had been in high school. Later they are voting for every anti marijuana politician. Who else knows all this stuff. Who else could possible know that marijuana makes them feel better. Doctors are not going around telling people to smoke pot. Who else knows about pot, other than a pot smoker that can say something is wrong with marijuana. It is a drug, not alcohol which can be grapes or anything from a potatoes to hops. How can there be a drug law if THC is legal. If they allowed THC to be legal, there is no number of synthetic drugs that would follow. Chemist and Pharmaceutical companies would hire lawyers to get their new drugs on the market. There would be like supermarkets generic marijuana, brand names, it would never end. Marijuana Cola and on and on

Hemp was used for all kinds of things back then. It doesn't mean they rolled it up and smoked it. They used it for ropes and clothes as well. Also, hemp is not the same thing in the same form as marijuana.

Yes, I'm afraid that this [insert intellectually debilitated slang here] appears to be correct. Too bad he doesn't know the difference between hemp and marijuana. See the link below. I had to look hard to find one that wasn't obviously run by chronics. The relevant citation is about halfway through.
