Yeah, i dont think dear garbage man is a good one. I dont know about sanitation worker. How about not skip it and just go straight to the body of the card. Like thanks for everything you do throught out the year etc...Maybe try and find out their last names they usually have them on their shirts. Or what about hi there. Its the thought that counts and im sure they'll appreciate it.

If you wanted to address on the outside of the envelope, I would just write "Thank you" or something similar and tape it to the outside of the top of the can. If you don't address it, they might think it's trash that didn't get inside of it!
A better idea, though, is that you might be able to find out the name of who does your route by calling the company or government workplace that picks up your trash. If you give them your address, they should be able to tell you who's been doing your "dirty work" all this time. And that little bit of time spent on the phone will result in a HUGE benefit of good will - that you took the time and cared enough to try!!

Does the garbage business have a name? You could just use the name of the company on the card, or call up the company and find out the names of the drivers on your route.

They are crazy most of them . Love to joke around. They're not ashamed of what they do. Somebody has to. Whatever you write they will love it.
To the Garbage Engineers of (put name of town)
To The Executives of the silver cans

Maybe try "Dear Sir" or "Dear Madam" or don't address the card 'to' anyone at all, just give it to them and write your message in it. Don't worry too much about it. If you know them well enough, maybe they'd think it funny if you put "Dear Garbage Man!"

To the people who make my life easier-
To the people who make civilzed life possible
To Hard workers
To the dedicated work force
To the blue coller worker
or you can not address it all, but don't call the garbage men, or sanitation engineer. Don't wrap up crap and tell me it's a fruit cake.

LOL @ Meesha 'the way you handle my can'.. nice! Lets talk some trash now shall we? ha ha.
I totally agree with all these people that say make it humorous. They are a great group of guys (gals!) that work really hard at a heavy/potentially hazardous/smelly job, and they are all great people. Never met one I didnt like!
I think its really great you've thought of them, I loved the guys at my old house, they were so awesome and loved to stop and chat and pet my dog when we were out walking.. pretty cute too ;)
Merry Christmas!
