Take these recent wars, and who started them:
Kuwait-Islam
Bosnia-Islam
Somalia-Islam
Israel-Islam
Cyprus-Islam
The 9/11 attacks that led to the invasion of Afghanistan-Islam
Extremists or not you don't hear about wars caused by Christians, Hindu's, or Buddhist, so how is the Islamic faith peaceful at all?

Jesus is not the prince of peace and the Bible is a book about creation and violence.
Arcticchic has it. If these actions weren't condoned by this religion, why do they not denounce it and curse those that defile the religions honor?

Yes Milosevic was evil, but it was the Muslims invasion of Shrebanitza that provoked the violence.

Most of those wars were many years ago. My list is within the last 10 years. Not too mention all wars started by Christians, while they may be justified by religion were meant for conquest of defense, not the mindless slaugter with no cause or outcome caused by the Muslims. Yes in years past the Muslims were an honorable and prosperous people but they live in the past, and their techniques and attitude prove it.

So Ruth, why don't these non-violent Muslims speak out against these radicals? The world did not let Hitler commit his atricities because he was of the same religion did they.

How can Jesus be the prince of peace when Christians have:
Committed the holocaust
Performed the Inquisition
Invaded countless nations
etc.
Actually, most wars between muslims and non muslims were started by the latter. Six day war, Afghanistan one and two, Iraq, Lebanon one and two, Gaza, etc.
Oh, and Bosnia wasn't started by Muslims, what on earth are you talking about there?
You think Christians don't start wars? What about:
WWII
WWI
Afghanistan
Iraq
100 years war
Any war fought in Medieval Europe
The Civil War
The Revolutionary War
Vietnam
and most of the wars that have been fought in history.
Ana: Show me where in the Qur'an it says to kill people in a non-defensive context. Surah 9:5 doesn't count because it refers to a specific group of people who lived in the 7th century who had attacked the Muslims. It really has no relevance today.

What planet do you live on You are simply using straw man arguments to try and prove a point, and a false point at that. Fundamentalist Muslims may use violence just as Fundamentalist Christians in the US use violence against abortion clinics and their workers. Any fundamental religion is dangerous. If you actually read something about Islam you would see it has more in common with Christianity than the Jewish religion does.
In mainstream Islam it is against Islamic teaching to force conversion on someone and it teaches that you should live side by side with people of all colours and religions. Kurt is wrong in his assessment. Muslims worship the same God as we do but simply believe that Jesus was a prophet of God like Mohammed and not the Son of God. The two religions mention the Garden of Eden & Adam and Eve - that's right Christianity and Islam. That seems a bit strange to me for two religions that don't worship the same God.
As for Christian countries starting wars, well once again you need to read a book only this time a history book. Let's see now, there was WW1, WW2, Korea came next, then Vietnam, Grenada, Panama. Those are only US conflicts. Not to mention Britains glorious empire, the conflict in N. Ireland, the Argentinian war over the Falklands.
Your point regarding Kuwait I assume refers to Saddam's invasion. Once again if you actually bothered to read something called a history book you would know that Iraq was NOT an Islamic state. Just because the majority of people living there are Muslims does not make it an Islamic state. Iraq was a secular society where the church and state existed as two seperate entities. There was no Islamic law directed by the state as there is in Iran. Indeed for this reason Osama Bin Laden hated Iraq and Saddam because Bin Laden believed that Islamic law should govern the country of Iraq.

There were polical and economic reasons for those wars. Not just religion. Not even primarily religion, with the exception of the attacks by the terrorists on 9/11. I wasn't aware that the invasion of Afghanistan was a holy war, though. I thought it was more a matter of taking down a dangerous criminal element that was being sheltered by the Taliban government.
Religion is often used to incite people to fight wars, and to demonize the enemy, but it is very rarely the primary reason for a war.
All religions are used in this way.

Even without the wars of the past centuries considered, the Christians had the Crusades and the Inquisition, and there were many European wars in midievil times fought in the name of God. Most religions have good and bad elements. The problem with religion is "extremists", in whatever faith they believe in. When you attach either "extremists" or "fundamentalists" to the end of Islam or Christianity it becomes a perversion of that religion.
The evil in Islam has overpowered the good in this century, as it did Christendom in past centuries. I make no excuse for these murderers and wish them all a place in everlasting hell. They have perverted their religion for their own means and that alone is blasphemy. Their God will show them suffering 1,000 times more than they have inflicted on the world.

Read the Koran and you will find it to be a writing that promotes violence. First against the Jewish nation and against all infidels second. A muslim is supossed to kill a Jew, no questions asked, an infidel is given the option to convert to Islam or be killed. A Muslim who does not kill a Jew is not committed to his/her Islamic faith. A Christian who is violent is not committed to his/her Christian faith. History records that Muslims will kill each other with reckless abandon, to gain control of the earth. Contrary to popular belief, Muslims do not worship the same god as Christians and Jews.

There seems to be a kernel of wisdom in differentiating between radical and moderate Muslims.
With Islam as the fastest growing world religion (20-25%), is it really a good idea to make this a religious war?
There are Muslims who love peace. Just as not all Christians bomb abortion clinics, not all Muslims are suicide bombers.

Attention !
Sgt. those were done by Islamic extremist and sadly all Islams faith followers are getting a bad rap for it. I talked to a person of the Islamic faith and found a lot of similarities to the christian faith, except for not recognizing Jesus Christ as the son of God (they have peaceful versus as well as you will perish words in both books, Koran/bible and both faiths feels superiority), He is recognized as a prophet, we never gone further then a 45 minute talk, so I cannot say I know a lot about their Koran....but enjoyed our differences and beliefs, and so did he.
At Ease !

All major religions are religions of peace. The rich and powerful religious, political and business leaders manipulate people and make violence seem holy. Christians, Muslims and Jews are all equally guilty of ignoring their own basic religious doctrines when it suits them.

They say Christianity is a moral religion yet look at the preachers in Colorado who had to quit for their gay encounters while preaching against homosexuality.
The terrorism in Ireland and England was all done by good Christians when the IRA was active there.
There are jerks in every religion.
