We are currently in daylight savings - so roughly about 8am it starts to get dark. Daylight savings ends in March - so when it goes back to normal usually it will get dark around 5-6pm.

In Queensland, where we do not yet subscribe to silly time, otherwise known as daylight svings, it gets dark as late as 9pm or even later... during the summer months... during winter the days are shorter...

Now i believed in theory, the further south you travelled further from the equator, the later it was to get darker, until you get to the pole where darkness is months at a time. the opposite true in the northern hemisphere (being the further north you travelled, the later sunset occurred).
Therefore- i'd believe Hobart would have the latest time at sunset (they prescribe daylight savings i believe) Then Darwin would have shortest time at sunset (whether they prescribe daylight saving, I don't know) If they do, then, wouldn't brisbane have the earliest sunset???

Currently susnset is between about 6.45pm and 8.30pm depending upon where you are in Australia. Sunset in Sydney's about 8.20pm at the moment.
