(Ditto to many of the ideas already listed.)

There should be no need for a student to have a cell phone in school. In case of emergency, the student can be reached through the school office.

In areas where intruders and drug pushes are an issue cell phones are used to facilitate these criminal activities. For this reason, the use of cell phones is prohibited in some school jurisdictions.

distraction to the instruction, a tool for cheating, most schools forbid cell phone usage during school hours so the risk of getting the phone taken is also a con.

You interupt class. Kids in school don't need cell phones during class. It's rude to your teacher and other students who are trying to learn something. Using the cell phone uses the same skill set as listening - you can't multitask, you'll just not be listening. You could be cheating.

2) Kids bring cell phones to classes and then the phones start ringing. Its too distracting. ( telling from my own experience)
3) Cheating would increase.
