I mean really really know them. Live and laugh with them. Argue with your siblings and make up the next day. Sit down and talk with your parents about other people and the weather. Skeletons in the closet that you find when you are older etc

No. I thought I knew my brother. We were very close growing up. Then last year we got together after having been apart for five years. We discovered we don't know eachother at all and it turns out we really don't get along. We're on speaking terms but we don't really say much to eachother. We make small talk like you would with a stranger. Him and his wife have assumed many things about me but have never directly asked me if they are true. It hurts that they are willing to believe the negative rather than ask me for the full story. But whatever.

My mom and I are actually closer than we ever were when I was growing up but we still have a wall up. We still don't really share everything.

I'm estranged from my dad. This weekend marks an entire years since we last spoke. I have no interest in speaking with him and he has none in speaking with me.

All I care about is my husband and my kids. They are my family and they are the ones who matter. Also, my friends who are closer than my family. One of my friends got me a sign that reads, "Friends are the family you choose for yourself." I like that and feel it is true. My friends are better to me and more caring than my actual family.

Sweetie, we have so many skeletons in my family that we would have to rent an Italian Villa to house them! On paper, we look great, but dig deeper, and OMG. My Mom and I are neighbors so we are best pals and hang out, etc. I have siblings I see only twice a year or never. Half of the fam, I have not met. There are actually people that we do our best to avoid! I am going to write a book and bust the whole thing open like a ripe watermelon, but after a couple of the relatives die. They would sue me for telling the truth!! Merry Christmas!!

funny you ask. My brother who just got out of rehab and a mental facility (bi polar drug addict, no fun) who I have seen once in 5 years and who has never even met my husband is coming for Christmas and so I guess that answers that. I met my mom when I was 16 so I dont know her side of the family and actually have not had contact with her in years (psycho drunk chick) so I would have to say nope. Although I feel as if I do know my sister pretty well even though she lives like 2000 miles away and i see once every other year. She's a blast. So all in all, my husbands family is my family. I lucked out with the best in laws a girl could get. Go me.

My family is huge. I only know-know a couple of them. I don't want to know anybody else's secrets or anything like that. I'm not the "let's be close" type.

yes. my immediate family. we're close like that. when we get together we party hard! there are a few taboo subjects. we've had quite a few family feuds but we do love each other at the end of the day.

Not at all. It's actually kind of sad, not being able to connect with the people who've known you your whole life. It just seems like we should have a connection, but we don't. I envy the friends I have who seem really connected to their relative. It's not like they don't fight or anything, but there's a bond.
