Depends on how nice? If you go to places that are at least $60 a plate....and as well how many courses are being served... My parents can take about 4 hours for a nice resturant. It all depends on the food, entertainment, and the ambiance of the resturant. When we go to my dad's country club for a brunch it could be a 3 hour event

I've worked in restaurants for a while now and i'd say about three hours. You want to chat over drinks for about 30 min, eating should take about 1 hour 45min to 2 hrs( you dont want to rush) and then about 30 min to relax, digest and talk before you head out

Do you plan to hang around and socialize after dinner? What about dessert? It could take anywhere from an hour to two hours.

Around two, perhaps three hours set aside would allow you to eat, drink, and carry on relaxed conversation without feeling rushed. Never rush a good meal, it never pays off. No need to choke on the $50 filet mignon! You can choke on a three dollar Big Mac for a tenth of the price.

I have served tables and bartened in many restaurants. You should allow at least two hours for a full dinner. Three hours would really let you relax and enjoy your time with whom ever.

Redhatgirl,
It depends on how busy they are and how many people are in your party, I would say figure about two to three hours.
