It is best to have collective awareness because this is what makes us human, if there is anything happening in our own household we all work towards getting back to harmony or as you call it quilibrium, same way happenings of the world, how it affect us, and what it means to us and how we react to express this concern is important, becuase earth is our home, and we are all one, people who reacted to Tsumani and offered whatever they could is out of consciousness, it defines who and what we are from within. Collective awareness is a higher form of human understanding, and it also expresses how evolved we are as human beings on earth.

Ideally, one needs to strike a balance between an individuals freedom and the collective will of the community, that we live in. Unlike the olden times, when each individual was considered as a clog in the common wheel, with no liberty for the individual recognised, after the 18th Century, especially in the Western world, the individual freedom is given much importance. Individualism should not regarded as an unbridled license to live unconcerned about the liberties of others. Life in society involves compromising of individual freedom, to sub-serve the common good.

Ensure that that individual is exposed to the "collective awareness as much as possible i.e. its people, meetings, readings and literature, tapes, radio, cd's etc and actively participates.
it IS possible to live in a community without knowing what goes on in it or even who lives next door if you dont participate
