You must be fired or laid off in order to get unemployment in my knowledge of the issue. If you quit, its your choice, not the employers.

Each state has different requirements. But I would say no you would not be able to get unemployment. I suggest you go on line and look for a job or get the paper sent to your new address, although it might be a day late, you will still be able to see what jobs might fit your skills. I would hope his employer is compensating him well for him having to uproot his family, With that being said, you should have a little bit to hold you til you get a job that you like.
