Every single woman is different. My kids are 13 months apart... I don't remember when I got my period, but I definately fell for that one... breastfeed and you won't get pregnant... yeah right!!!

No, this isn't always the case. Make sure you are using contraceptives if you're not planning any more (6 weeks after giving birth I'm going to make that assumption lol) as you don't know when your next period will be and therefore can't tell when you're ovulating. Don't think breast feeding is a form of birth control. It is partially true, a lot of women don't have their period for 3-6 months if they're breast feeding but there are others (like myself) who had a period 4 weeks after giving birth. Also, your first one may be quite heavy and painful (though after childbirth, your perception of pain may have changed ever so slighly lol) so be prepared and maybe use a product with a higher absorbency than you would normally use. Hope that helps xx
ps congratulations xxxx

Yes it is true.... some what. Most women don't have periods while they are breast feeding, but just like with anything else... some do. While I was breast feeding, I didn't bleed.. but just as soon as I slacked up in feeding I started to have a period.

Okay, I EXCLUSIVELY breast fed for 12 months. We used NO pacifiers, NO bottles, NO thumbs. NOTHING but breast milk! After giving birth, I bled for 16 weeks after delivering, and after a 3 week break I started regular periods, and had them the whole time I breast fed. EVERY woman is different, and has different experiences. That is just me. I ALSO, got pregnant while breastfeeding as well, so please don't think that it is fool proof a birth control method.

ive been exclusevely breastfeeding now for 5 months and still havent gotten my period (thank god) but some women get it a few weeks after giving birth, some take 6 months or more. i wouldnt worry too much about it unless you havent stopped bleeding since you gave birth, then that could be a problem. Good luck with your new baby!!!

This can't be true. During pregnancy the mentration cycle is interrupted and the menstration stops. After delivery your menstration resumes immediately and one can expect a slightly heavier flow. Breast feeding does not stop the menstration but may stop, in a certain sense, slowdown the flow thus you may experience only light flow of blood. Once breast feeding stops, one may experience a slightly heavier flow for several months before returning to 'normal' flow.

I think it's a little too early for you to tell. Lochia can take place for about six weeks, that means it could go longer. If you're exclusively breastfeeding and your baby doesn't so much as suck her thumb, you should not get a period until you begin to wean. That isn't 100% for everyone, but overall that's the way it works. For anyone who got their periods 6 weeks later, they were using some sort of pacifier with their baby, or bottle-feeding also.

I think you should check with the doctor. It has been just six weeks. When did your bleeding stop after giving birth ?
That said, breastfeeding does not always mean that you skip period. For some, they can go for months without one while nursing. For me, it came pretty soon.

That is not true for everyone. I have exclusively breastfed all 3 of my babys and I always got my period 6 weeks after giving birth. It is different for everyone.

Breastfed for three years straight and got my period back within six weeks of giving birth. Got it every month after that.

That bleeding is most likely not your menstrual cycle. It is probably from delivery. I breastfed my babies but bled off and on for about 6 weeks then no periods after that.
