No. Contrary to all the popular myths, it is because the state of Kentucky legislature decided that anything using the name "Kentucky" had to pay a tax for doing so. Thus, Kentucky Fried Chicken became KFC to avoid having to pay a silly user's fee to the State of Kentucky.

If you are talking about the Colonel, Yes he was real. I had the privledge of dancing with him at the Kentucky Colonels Ball in 1973. I had a picture of us taken together. He signed it, and before I got out of there someone had swiped it.

Are you referring to the Colonel, of KY Fried Chicken? Yes, he was real. He started in Corbin, KY. He was never called simply, Kentucky. Not in Kentucky anyhow. Peace!

Yes he was. As a matter of fact he use to star in his own commercials. Sadly he died of heart diease....the cause?...eating too much of his fried chicken.
