Nobody in their right mind is going to enlist knowing that's a one-way ticket to Iraq. He might ask Congress for a draft, but with the Democrats now in power, he won't get it. His days of power are just about over - he's just going to spend the next couple of years sitting in his little office spinning his wheels and playing with Barney. If by some miracle he were to get a draft, there should be no loopholes like there was when he was able to get out of it by enlisting in the Air Guard and serving valiantly in Alabama. Everyone who is able should be required to serve. No deferments.

no. reenlistment is excellent thanks to $20,000 reenlistment bonuses. all they have to do is increase sign on bonuses again, and increase the GI bill. in addition while your in the army college courses are free, they give you a free lap top,so you can take on line courses even in Iraq. all they have to do is promote this. money is more of an incentive, then force-they know this already. nor would they institute the draft when support for the war has decreased, when support for bush is at an all time low. they do not want to risk further alienating citizen from the the republican party. they do want a chance to win the the presidential election.

No. Like the national debt, we will simply have a troop deficit. This will be dealt with by borrowing troops from other countries like Mexico. It turns out that a real quick way to become a US citizen is to serve in the armed forces, and so there are plenty of people lined up waiting to serve!

That is any politicians nightmare. Just offer $50,000 sign on bonus so you can say you still have an "all volunteer army" Offer criminals a choice of jail or Iraq.

The only person who has tried to sponsor the draft is Charlie Wrangel, a Democrat from New York.

I think it is funnier than hell that people were whining about Republican scare tactics before this past election. The threat of the draft was thrown around quite a bit by lots of liberals, and when it was all over, it was a DEMOCRAT who called for the draft!

Is it feasible without a draft?

Especially with some on their 3rd or 4th rotation.

I sure hope not though!

Probably, because that would be really unpopular but Bush doesn't ever have to run for office again.
