There are several methods to "sleep training" infants. Most of them work if you follow them consistently. The following is a very good article.

Every parent has to figure out a way that works for their family - so explore your options before you decide on a method.

This site has a good review of all the methods.

Find out what works with your parenting philosophy and just follow that method. We followed the "No cry sleep solution" by Pently and it worked very well for us.

Good luck.

If you rocked him to sleep or held him while he was falling asleep a lot from birth, it may be difficult to break the habit. It's just a matter of starting to put him down a little earlier each night (by earlier I mean while you're holding him). Try standing next to his bed the first few times so he knows you're still around. Then gradually move further away like sitting in a chair while reading to him. He'll probably fuss a lot, but be strong. You know when he's had too much and to pick him up again, I certainly don't think you should just put him down and leave without coming back. It's too much of a shock to him. Just stay consistent and he'll eventually fall asleep on his own. Best of luck!

You put him down and let him cry. He may cry for hours, but he'll eventually go to sleep. You're going to have to be patient with him. It may take several days or even weeks. The crying won't hurt him either, it'll just strengthen his lungs. If you don't stop it now, the older he gets, the more harder it'll become. Now is also the time to start putting him in his own room, that way you can solve that problem now too. Just put a transmitter in his room and the reciever in yours. You'll be happy in the longrun you've done this now. Best of luck to you.

Try training him during the day. Put him in the crib and leave him their for a while. He's going to cry, everyday let him cry a bit longer he'll eventually get the point and learn to fall asleep on his own. It takes time!!!!!!!!!!!

start putting him in his crib when its night time and if he crys just let him cry for a little bit go in there after a while rub his back give him a kiss but dont pick him up and just every time you go in there after that make the times longer he should fall asleep eventually as long as theres nothing wrong with him its ok to let him cry its good for there lungs anyway but just keep doing that and dont break it and he should start falling asleep on his own when you put him in his bed good luck

First you need to tire him out so cut the day siesta to minimum hour. Keep him busy until he's really tired then put him on his bed and sing him a song or tell him a story. He should be sound asleep by then and viola you've your private time! Do this for several weeks and it'll be his usual regime after that!

Hold and cuddle him while he's eating. Then put him in his crib and leave him there. Let him cry. Nothing bad will happen. In two nights or so, he'll learn to fall asleep.

Well try to enjoy it while it lasts I miss those days more than you could possibly ever fathom. Try holding him until he goes to sleep then putting him down to go about your business or try the furberizing method put him down and let him cry for five minutes for a few days then change to ten minutes then fifteen minutes by the time you have gotten to twenty minutes he will probably be getting the picture and starting to sleep on his own.

I still swaddle my baby didn't for a while got bad behavior standing up and crying, now I wait until she really is tired, bathe her, feed her a bottle swaddle her and lay her in the crib with a flat pillow she can't fight it. she's getting too small for the medium size swaddler "wrappy" @ 8 mos from babies r us. I am going to get the large and hope she will wear it till she's two!

Its not going to happen right away but you have to put him in his crib after being bathed, fed and changed, etc. He is going to cry at first cuz he has to get uses to it. I used to run water w/my daughter and it would knock her right out. You should also make sure its not noisy or he won't want to go to sleep and put him to bed at the same time everynight.

But I was just curious; what is wrong with rocking him to sleep and then putting him to sleep?
