A foodie is someone who is passionate and knowledgeable about food.
A foodie demands the best quality food in their diet, and enjoys new and unusual taste sensations. A foodie probably relishes different dishes and cuisines, enjoys shopping at specialty grocery stores and fresh produce markets, reads recipe books as if they were novels, and considers the Food Network a must-have TV channel (even if they do shout angry criticisms at the chefs from time to time). A foodie is the person who not only knows where all the best little out-of-the-way restaraunts are, they know which dishes you should try, how the cook seasoned them, and how the dish evolved from one once eaten by Albanian peasants. A foodie will likely turn their nose up at the prospect of eating fast food, but will gladly prepare an elaborate picnic for you. A foodie will be totally unable to comprehend why you aren't willing to eat the fermented soy beans, or why the thought of eating the infant octopus in a vinegar sauce with fresh greens makes you queasy. (Make friends with foodies they have excellent dinner parties.)
