It is in a sense. However it's not a game sport (ie football, basketball, hockey). Dance is a sport the same way that cheerleading, gymnastics, skiiing, ect are sports. Most only don't consider it one because it doesn't "involve direct contact and there isn't a strict set of rules". It all depends who you talk to.

It is both a sport and an art. Dance is always an art, and many times it can be a sport because of so many dance competitions now. I've danced for a total of around 20 years.

You are so right! In dance your always competing even when your not on a team because you want to be in the front or get the extra part or something. It takes flexibility, and muscle. You have to make sure you don't indulge in junk food. You need to be able to preform. People who sat it is not a sport have never done it!

I definitely think dance is a sport, especially if it's competitive dance like you do. I dance, but not competitively and it's harder to decide. If i had to choose, i would definitely say it was a sport. and i also believe that dancing is more of a sport than cheerleading, not because it requires more ability, but because it wasn't founded around other sports like football, or basketball.
