I work with this company that has a job offer as just a regular forklift operator and or driver (which will pay more then I'm making right now). The requirement is a forklift license in which the company doesnt pay for or train you. So can I go to the dmv and schedule a class? Or is it a written test? I use to work at a storage place that didn't give a crap and let me ride their forklift if other people needed help.

Okay, if you are here in the US the options that the folks from australia gave you are not an option. By OSHA regulations every company is SUPPOSED to train and certify anyone driving a forklift in their facility. Many companies don't care and some of them are able to use loop holes in the regulations to get away with NOT doing this. ie: their size and purpose of the forklifts used. You can indeed check out a local college or education center on taking a class and getting a certification from them. This at least shows you have had some training and experience on it, even ifyou don't have a lot of work history. However, any reputable and decent company should recertify you before allowing you to go on your own in their facility. I hope this helps. You can also do on line searches about classes offered in your area.

hi m8 i advise you to get your forklift ticket it may cost a bit but you will never look back i dont no how much it will cost u in uk its normaly a 1 day course but im in australia i have got my fork /hiab/dogman/crane tickets its the best thing i ever did as i can tell a company to jam it 1 day and i have a new job the next my tickets i have spent 5000$ on these but its realy worth it , its the way world is going if you dont have it you cant operate it if you going to travel it will buy you the job GO FOR IT GOOD LUCK HOPE U GET IT

I went to a sales/repairs forklift company, and they put me on to a guy that does the permits... it wasnt hard, just common sense.....we did 1 day in the classroom, 1 day in the 'field', and then the test, both written and practical. There was one girl who had never been on a f/l, but she got her permit straight up..... hope this helps you........

My understanding is that a license is issued w/ state authority by the local business (at least that is my experience). Requires a written and a "road" test. Check with your HR dept.

Its not a DMV test. You can get it sometimes at local colleges or local adult education centers community centers or similar places like that.
