You have to understand that explaining long division with Yahoo Answers is an extremely difficult task.
All I can say is that you'd first consider the first terms (x and x^3), and ask yourself, "How many times does x go into x^3?" Your answer would be x^2, you would write an x^2 on top of the division divider, and multiply x^2 to each of (x - 1), subtract like you would long division and you get a new polynomial.
You would repeat this process until you have a remainder and a quotient.
Sorry I couldn't be much help but I hope it's at least a start.
