In the Lord of the Rings, the Ents complain that their mates, the Entwives, have all vanished.

Did Tolkein ever tell in any of his books what happened to the Entwives?

No he didn't they were unimpressed with the male Ents and their efforts and simply seemed to have wandered off. Tolkein never said where. There is one hint when Treebeard is talking to the Fellowship after the defeat of Sauron and the beginning of their return home he speaks of, "The willow meads of Tarsinian" a sort of "Ent Heaven" and that they all may meet there some day.

That's an interesting question. I never thought about that. Treebeard does say that the Entwives have vanished but I don't recall him giving a reason. Of course I haven't actually read the book lately. The movies are just as good.

No. The Ents kept looking for them, but we never know if they were found or where they went in the first place.

No. Treebeard says they would like the Shire, but in fact they are not there.
