I was popular in my old school and i knew everyone but now I'm in middle school. I'm still popular but with only people from my old school. I also want to keep my old friends close to me because now I'm in a school with 300 6th graders and me and my friends are drifting apart and i never talk to some of my best friends anymore. how can i get more popular but still keep my friends close to me?

I know how difficult it is to maintain friendships...but it boils down to one word - EFFORT. If you want to keep in touch with your friends from your old school, you can't just expect things to stay the way things are.

Bear in mind that people change and you change. You've got to come to terms with this fact and respect that change and respect friends' decision to change.

Write a nice card to each of your friend from your old school. It doesn't necessarily have to be a christmas card. It can be a 'keep in touch' card or a birthday card. And when you notice that an old friend isn't feeling happy, write him/her a card to cheer that person up. A card doesn't cost much, but the receiver is touched a lifetime.

Alternatively, you could compile a series of old photos and create a slideshow. Copy the slideshow into CDs and circulate to your old friends. It's like walking down memory lane.

However, you have to bear in mind that you can't be popular with everyone. To have touched a few hearts and be remembered fondly by a handful is good enough.

don't worry about being popular.. having friends that you like and that like you is enough.. there is no need to know everyone.

and if you really must be 'popular' just be yourself and be social and try to talk to new people everyday, try and find things in common with different people. Also try out new activities or clubs you never knew about before and see what kind of people you meet there.

if you want to keep your old friends invite one or two of them to join a new club you are joining but still make a point to talk to others. also reserve one day a week to hang out with your old friends after school or on the weekend.

hope this helps

Popularity is so overrated. All 'popular' people do is backstab you and turn on you for someone new. Trust me, I'm popular, and just this year, I've been through more drama then I want to go through in a lifetime. I've been through sixth grade about 5 or 6 years ago, and people are just acting out because it's their first time in middle school.

why does everyone care so much about being "popular" just be yourself, and if you have great friends, trust me when your with them you will feel popular. what does popularity mean anyway? to have all the guys like you? to have all the girls envy you? or to just be the center of attention? the most important things in life are to have GOOD friends. and 20 years from now, it really wont matter how your hair looked, the jeans you bought, how many guys asked you out, or how many friends you had. what will matter is what you learned & how you used it. want to know who your REAL friends are? screw up, and see whos still there.

Just be yourself because a girl who came in the middle of my seventh grade year tried that and the only thing she became famous for was her evilness. Then people started making fun of her weight and she ended up crying alot. But she still kept being mean because it would make her "popular". "Popular" is what you make it to be, so don't try to impress and just make yourself some friends who will always have your back. You'll always be popular in thier eyes and that's all that matters.

you can become popular by not trying to be.. just be yourself and if you don't become popular, then that's not the way you were meant to be. keep your friends close at all costs even if they're "losers" poularity will only last until a new school, but friends can last forever.

good luck

well, i have the same problem. but what i'm doing is just being myself around people who will listen to my craziness. so just be yourself whenever you feel like you don't have that many freinds. and i know your parents have probly told you SO many times to be yourself, but trust me, a sixth grader myself, struggling until the end of second semester, and i found this out myself.

Get involved in extra-curricular activities and be yourself. People notice if you're phony. Don't be afraid to stand up and answer questions in class.
