I need to write a poem about winter. If anyone has any ideas on how to start or maybe a line I could possibly use just to get me started, it would really be helpful. Or a way I could describe winter with imagery. Thanks so much.. any help would be appreciated!!

Start by thinking of all things that relate to winter...and it will depend on where you live whether or not that includes snow...and think of the emotions that seem to come along with winter...and think of activities that you do in the winter...and the imagery should start coming to your mind.

I think of things like leafless branches, sounds of snowmobiles, the sharp scraping of shovels on sidewalks, the jingle of bells on wreaths hung on doors, the glistening lights on houses, the smell of fresh-baked gingerbread cookies....

Hope that helps inspire you a little bit.

If someone else writes the poem for you, it's not really your poem.
Think up some images of winter. And don't restrict yourself to just sights. Write down everything about winter that you feel with all 5 of your sense. Once you have a few ideas, just start writing. Don't try to make it sound like a poem in your first draft. Save that for the revision part.

Think of what kind of writer he is, that may help you with some of the words and the direction of where you should go with the poem, for an example of it, think about the wording, you could say "His pen was fast on the page." or "As he wrote, the pen sped faster and faster upon the page, to the point where you could no longer see the thin writing tool, but only the written word on the page." One may be better in verse but the shorter one may be better for your rhyme, or your true style of writing. Looking up other poems, and taking there style or wording may be better sounding, but it may not be YOU. Try to stay with your style of writing so that you don't get off track in the words,or popularity of the poem. I'm not saying not to get inspiration from other writers, I do it myself, and often can't find much to work with without it, every writer had inspiration from somewhere to write what they did, even if they can't remember what it was. Just make sure when you're done with the poem,or anything you write, you'll be able to recognize what you've written as your work, and not a copy of someone else.

Winter is cold, winter is bright,
Winter can be warm,, like the Christmas lights,

Winter brings family and friends together,
Like we’ll all be there, forever.

Winter is pleasant, winter is nice,
Like a bowl of chicken and rice.

Winter is my favorite season,
With a beautiful, beautiful reason.
