Put all of your ingredients in a small (clean) coffee can. Seal the lid on with packing tape. Put inside a larger (clean) coffee can. Fill the empty space in the large can with dry ice. Seal that lid with packing tape as well. Challenge your children to see how far they can roll that large can across the room. After 20 minutes, you will have fresh ice cream without an ice cream maker (To me, it was easier to spend $30 and buy a "Rival" brand ice cream machine...the base is sealed liquid you put in the deep freezer for 24 hours and has an electric lid that holds and turns the paddles for easy ice cream making--easy clean up too!)

We made ice cream in my chem class in high school! We added sugar, milk, and vanilla essence inside one quart-sized ziplock bag. Then you put a bunch of ice (fill up maybe 30%-40%) and rock salt (if you can find it), but otherwise table salt, 1/4 cup into a gallon sized bag and start SHAKING! It takes about 20 minutes, but you can do it. For four "scoops" (1/2 cup servings), use 1 cup sugar, 2 cups milk (whole milk probably tastes best), and a teaspoon vanilla essence. Be warned: This method of making ice cream mostly will just piss you off...but it's pretty cheap. EDIT: You have to do it this way...you can't just put the batter in the freezer because it won't blend together properly, because you'll just end up with sugary milk and spots of vanilla. SOWWY. You can try using an empty aluminum coffee can with the salt & ice instead of the gallon size bag, this might be easier.

buy vanilla ice cream. let it soften, but not fully melt. mix in some eggnog. if you need to, refreeze before you're done mixing so it doesn't turn to liquid. you may need to thaw, mix, freeze, thaw, mix, freeze, a few times before it's thouroughly blended.
