Here is the main problem with binoculars. They limit your field of view. You can see only a small portion of what is happening on the entire field. If you really truly want a pair for watch a football game and I can certainly see why you might, you will want a pair with a very wide field of view. The lower powers have a much wider field of view than the higher powers. The other thing to consider is whether or not the user wears eye glasses. If you then you will want a pair of binoculars with at least 16 mm of eye relief.

Bushnell makes a pair of 8x32 binoculars with 420 ' field of view at 1000 yards for about $127. Called the Excursion. Not suitable for eyeglass wearers however.

Leupold makes a pair of 6x30 binouclars with 420 ' field of view at 1000 yards for about $99. Called Yosemite. They are satisfactory for eyeglass wearers.

There are others that are more expensive. Now you will not be sitting at 1000 yards from the action. More like 100 to 200 yards, so the field of view will by 42 ' to 84 '.

Compact binoculars have a much narrower field of view, meaning you will see much less of the action, about 25% less.

Full size binoculars do not have significantly more field of view, if any, so the mid size of the types listed above are your best bets.

Notre Dame and Army! Still good. Yes, the field looks great!
