My family and I are planning on a week long vacation to the lower 48 States. Any suggestion on what might be a pleasant destination?

That's such a tough question, because there are some pretty incredible places in the U.S.
That said, how about:
Crater Lake, Oregon
Yosemite NP, California
Grand Canyon NP, Arizona
Glacier NP, Montana
San Francisco, CA
Just about anywhere in the Rocky Mountains, Colorado
Yellowstone NP, Colorado

Having traveled most of the United States, I've found the most beautiful place this country has to offer is along the pacific coast in California. Drive the pacific coast highway from San Francisco to San Diego and make a few stops along the way. I recommend Carmel and Malibu. The kids can also go to Disneyland in L.A.

For different times of the year, there might be different answers.
Do you want just beautiful scenery things or "touristy" stuff? There are literally hundreds if not thousands of things you could do...
If all you want is beautiful, pick up a 2007 calendar that has some picturesque photos of places at different times of the year.
The Grand Canyon is probably a good place to go... but I don't know if they restrict it at certain times of the year.

There is a beautiful place in Southern Illinois called the Garden of the Gods. Amazing and unique rock formations.
If you happen to come through St Louis, Mo - make sure you take a ride to the top of the Arch! You and the kids will love it!

Hey, a good choice would be Gulfport Ms. I live there and my home was hit by Katrina so, I know wat goes on around here. We have great restaurants and hotels but they aren't your nyc or hollywood hotels. besides at this time of year we all go down to the beach a lot. Usually you don't need a jacket. O and we have great parks for children!
