What exactly is a promise ring and what ring do you wear it on?

For christmas im getting my boyfriend a ring and in the inside its going to say "forever yours" can this be considered a promise ring? Is a promise ring differnt from an engagement ring, I just want it to mean that I am only going to be with him. What finger is he going to wear it on if it is a promis ring?

A promise ring coming from you means that you will not date anyone else while you are dating him. That doesn't mean that he cant date others. Unless he gives you a promise ring that is him saying I promise not to date anyone else. The thing about this is if you are a teenager, boys are crazed with sex on the mind. A ring won't stop them from going out on you. It is supposed to be worn on the finger you would put an engagement or a wedding ring. If he is true to you, he will wear it on that ring finger.

Usually a promise ring implys that you are promising yourself to that person. In some relationships, it's just a ring. In others, it's an engagement ring. (Yes, and engagement ring is a form of a promise ring. You are promising your life for them. A marriage ring is, too. It means you have already promised yourself to a single person.)

Im not sure what finger you where it on, but i know what it is. It can be more then on thing. If you get a promise ring from your dad or somebody like that it means that you wont have sex untill your married. In your case it means that you promise to be with him and only him

A promise ring is a symbol of your love for another person and that you want to be with them for life and to make a seriuos commitment so people may look at this as a engagement ring
but most of the time it means I'm yours and I don't want to be without you in my life. Remeber most engagement rings are purchased by the man for the women but thisa is a nice gesture to tell the guy that he is the one you want.

my boyfriend got me a promise ring, its beautiful. I wear it on my ring finger, on my left hand. When he proposes, Ill switch it to the right ring finger and wear the engagement ring on my left hand. I bought him one also, and he wears it the same way. I guess its a way of letting people know your not available...and your happily in love. Not that you need a ring to prove that...but you know what I mean lol

that's sweet. I got my boyfriend a ring that says "i promise" inside of it. and that pretty much means, forever yours.....so I got it the size of his marriage finger, but he wears in on his right hand instead of left, whatever, at least he wears it!
