My wipers work fine, but when it comes time to shut them off, all of a sudden they shoot up and stay that way. What could be wrong and is it something easily fixed?

What make, model and year of the car for starters? Check the obvious, the fuse in the fuse box. Sometimes it could just be a bad switch. These are the two least expensive and easier to fix. It could be the wiper motor starting to go, which is more involved and more expensive to fix. Good luck!

You probably just had these installed recently or even a new wiper motor?. Someone removed the wipers both at the same time and when they reinstalled them, they were both inadvertently installed on the wrong tooth. If you cant figure out which tooth to reinstall them on, go to a reputable repair center, they will be able to help you from there.
good luck........

most of the time it is the motor it has got a micro switch in it to tell the motor to go to home position or blades down at the bottom of the window. you will have to live with it or get a new windshield motor.

? has the right answer... or you should eliminate the wiper blade arm by technique of eliminating the cover on the bottom of the arm and undoing the nut. Then eliminate the arm and turn it to the right position and replace the nut and cover source(s):

they were put on incorrectly. Remove them when they are off and reposition them to the down and off normal position.
