I think some actors do mumble sometimes and I and others I ask can't understand them esp. when the background music is too loud and drowns them out

Because they are trained speakers and paid NOT to mumble. If you mumble you end up on the cutting room floor.

mikey from the last big brother definately mumbled.you'll find now that you've asked the question,you'll see loads of people on tv mumbling.

If you want them to "mumble", turn the volume down.

Because the audience has to understand the dialogue. Viewers would become annoyed pretty quick with a character they couldn't understand.

Thats why they take acting classes so they don't mumble like some old decrepid farty windbag.....

coz they take 2 n its read off a script they dont hv 2 think about what 2 say

Perhaps it's because the audience wouldn't be able to hear them clearly but I could be completely wrong!

I would say if the sceen calls for it they would. I think Sylvester Stallone does it daily
