yes and no.
If you buy from a reputable store, they will be able to pick each component of the computer to absolutelly outperform those found in Dell's and brand name computers for the same price or cheaper the more expensive it goes on the Dell website....
If you have no clue about differences in the Motherboards, Ram timings, Bus speeds, Component brands, and the ability to upgrade parts in the future, then go and get one online... it will be cheaper than the store.

Buying a computer online is better, but only if you go to the SPECIFIC brand's website, none of that eBay junk. The reason is because if you buy one from a specific brand's website, you have a higher chance of not getting ripped off, like Dell or Apple. And, (this is pretty unrelated), the best type of a laptop would be Dell, Gateway, or Apple.

Yes. You can get a better deal online. But unless you can fix computers go with a computer that has excellent tech support. Even if it costs more. Also do not buy emachines at any price.

definitely yes. I bought my computer for $500 online at magic micro(that include shipping) where I would have normally paid $1000 at a big chain like Best Buy or Comp USA.

Yo he comprado de muchas veces ordenadores en los sitios web y siempre he encontrado la mejor calidad, el ultimo ordenador es para una amiga, la verdad es que parece especial creado para ella porque tiene un disco duro con una excelente capacidad de almacenaje y va bastante rápido por su gran memoria y su buen procesador, muy buena compra sin duda.
