I am a tenth grade french horn player playing a H177 double horn. I can currently play up to a high C, can anyone give me any tips/advice for playing higher than this? (ie. up to an F) and not the fingerings I know those

Hey! It's cool ur a French Horn Player. I too am a tenth grade French Horn player and I actually just asked my director about hitting high notes and he said that some of the things you could do is to really get a big, very firm air stream behind from the back of your mouth and also especially if you don't already use b-flat fingerings (trigger) do! Using them is all the help you need. They absolutely make a difference. oh and email me with your response to this if you would please. diadame_2@yahoo.com

As a singer, you're always taught to "THINK HIGHER" if you think higher after practice you'll slowly get there.

As for playing the french horn.. I mean, I guess your lips can get only so tight... Maybe lip and mouth exercises?

I'm a singer, but I'm not really informed about musical instruments. However, have you tried searching either Yahoo! or Google? Often times they have good, helpful information on just about anything.

It's just gonna take practice and dedication. The more you practice, the better you'll be.
