I am going to try out for the local Rugby Union team in my city next Spring and pretty much have learned the rules and players positions and tasks. But the problem is my endurance is out the window even if I run every day.

Are there specific drills for running and endurance for Rugby games?

This is an excellent site I've been using for exactly what you're looking for ever since the site started off. Their series of PDFs on fuel mix conditioning, core stability and strength and power really helped me go from an unfit player coming back from years out of the game to being at the peak of my form and being conditioned to play hard week in week out.

This did wonders for our team...

1. Find a running track
2. Buy a forty of Malt liquor
3. Run one lap at a constant quick pace (lap < 90 secs)
4. Drink 1/4 of the beverage in under 2 minutes
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4, three more times until beverage is consumed and mile is ran.

This will seem impossible at first but after 4 times a week you should see honest results

ps. If you must puke, feel free

Visit your local bio kineticest and enquire about endurance training for rugby. Also try the local gym for personnal trainer advice and local rugby clubs with their conditioning coaches.

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING WORKED LIKE A BOMB FOR ME AS THE "TEMPO" CONSTANTLY CHANGES . THE FAMOUS "PYRAMID" WORK-OUT ON THE FIELD WORKS WELL TOO . It's important to have a good cardiovascular fitness .
