When you take the SAT more than once, is the score sent to colleges your best score or do they average your scores?

If you've taken the SAT for the first time and specified that so and so college recieve your scores then that college will get your scores for that first time.

If you take the SAT again (and so on and so forth), your current and past scores will be sent to the college you specified.

If you're just ordering that a score report just be sent to a college same thing, all the times you've taken SATs will show up on that report.

Generally colleges don't average between all your SAT scores, most general find your highest score in each section and use that
as basis for your criteria. (You should check your college's SAT policy!!!!!!!)

E.g. You scored a 500 Math and a 600 reading the first time
The second time you score a 580 Math and a 560 reading
They wil use your 580 math and your 600 reading.

Generally it's a good idea to not take it more than 3 times but this again also depends on the person, SAT scores are not as a big a deal as they once where so long as you have a strong academic and extracurricular foundation, personally SAT scores don't mean as much as they used to.

So work hard and get involved in things you like and I'm sure that'll show off better than SAT scores ever could.

As others have commented, you choose to send your scores to specific colleges.

You may be interested that each college has its own policy for interpreting multiple scores. Some schools will weigh your high scores less if you took the SAT a dozen times.

More than that, why would you want to take it a dozen times? There are fairly easy ways to improve your score without repeated examinations. For instance, you could buy a book of SAT questions published by the ETS for about $20 (make sure it's the new SAT questions - the book has sample essays).

That's not what you asked, but it sounded like what you wanted to know about. Good luck!

If you are indicating on your SAT form which schools you want to receive the score from that specific test, the scores are automatically sent. That would apply to each time you take it.

No one else would receive them.

If you don't have them sent to any school, no one will receive them.

On the other hand, when and if you apply to colleges and contact the service to send your scores out, ALL of them will go. The colleges tend to look at the best one as the indication of your ability.

They take the best score in each subject. Lets say you get a 150 in math and a 250 in another area. Than the 2 time u get a 200 in math and a 200 in another area. They would take the 200 in math and the 250 in another area.
