Ok first of make sure that you have removed all the norton files from your computer run a registry cleaner to get rid of any unwanted files. Plug your usb equipment in the usb port the computer should find the new hard ware and then install your driver and software for it. Check your device manager look under hard drives see if the drive is seen in there then if it is right click on it and see if it says working properly if not install the driver again

You can buy an external cd drive from pc world or any other pc shop. Just be sure to check that it can do what you want, i.e make sure it's a re-writer if you want to burn cd's/dvd's.
