a. Reformation
This is an unsatisfactory answer, however, because the Reformation began in 1519, in Germany, when Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the church door at Wittenberg.

The only thing that this answer does is put things at about the same time. But maybe that's what you're looking for.

it happened as a "knee jerk reaction" by henry the eighth of england then perhaps the most powerful and warlike sovereign in europe to the pope in rome's denial of his request to set his marriage aside in divorce so that he could remarry and ensure a male heir for his throne, one of the linch-pins and bastions of roman catholic christian nations at the time!!he had eventual 6 wives all told!!the first was catherine odf aragon!!another was 6 fingered anne boleyn!!lady jane grey and others!!henry took all church and state power unto himself and started his own state sanctioned religion on the catholic model with himself as the temporal leader and the arch-bishop of canterbury as the religious pontiff thereof!!samuel beckett was at one time the arch-bishop on the appointment of his friend the king of england!however his former friend in carousel and hunting expeditions took his untutored eclessiastic status too seriously in a spiritual and moral confrontation with his liege!!this king railed at his former friend "at cups" with his knights and blurted out"who will rid me of this prelate"!!and thre knights rode into the cathedral and cut the newly elected arch-bishop down in the sacristy!!!the king was distraught but the deed was done!!"the sped arrow and the spoken word can not be recalled!!sadly!!
