Great movie, I really enjoyed it, but something has been niggling at me, that perhaps someone can help me out with:

In the opening court room scene, Michael Caine's character testified that he had seen The Professor stand by and do nothing whilst watching who he thought was The Great Danton drown. In actual fact, we know that this isn't the case and The Professor took action to try and save Danton.

Why did he say this?

Thanks guys

Hey Beck - I know!! I saw this last night and think it was one of the best films I've seen lately - but just can't fathom that part?

Hi, I had the same thought. Don't you hate it when movies that make you think have discrepancies like that? Then you sit there pondering whether it was just a mistake, or was it significant and you just haven't understood it properly.... Well I do that anyway! I shall wait with bated breath for the answer, if it ever comes : )

maybe because if he died, the Professor might be held liable for his death?
