I have a IBM thinkpad with a S3 Graphics SuperSavage/IXC 1014 graphics card. How many megabytes is it, and can I upgrade it?

Some laptops use 'shared memory' for Graphics - the Graphics RAM is taken out of the main memory. You can change the amount via the BIOS.

However most Laptops have fixed RAM 'graphics chips' built into the motherboard.

Some old models might have a PCI slot (or you might be able to purchase a base station with a PCI slot) where you could fit an alternative graphics card.

I suggest you use Google to research the options for your own specific Model of Thinkpad.

You can't "upgrade" it BUT scince it is and agp class integral card without its own dedicated video memory, you can increase the allocated memory from the system. You do this by open the bios settings when the computer starts up. Usually delete, f1, f2 or control. Then you find like advanced I/O options find video card memory and increase it. If you can't, you should get a new laptop anyway because the thinkpads with this card in them are from at top 3 years ago. Try this laptop from abs - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834224054 it has what is called a dedicated card. This means that it has only 1 setting for its video memory but this is usually more than an itegrated card. (the laptop is $500 off you should get it- i am too actually)

If you've got an S3 SuperSavage, then you've got a pretty old laptop. It is extremely unlikely that the model of Thinkpad you have can have its graphics updated. I'm afraid you're looking at getting a new one.

Most likely, you cannot upgrade the graphics card as it is likely built in to the sys board. However, if it uses shared RAM, then you may be able to upgrade the RAM to get a small boost in the on-board graphics. I wish I had better news for you!

Chances are you cannot upgrade it, but you may be able to get a PC Card video card. I would personally not spend money on it and save up for a new laptop.
