Get infant Tylenol, gas relief drops, that thing that you use to extract yucky stuff from baby's nose: I cant think of whats its called though - sorry, Baby bathtub with the big sponge ofr newborns (you don't need baby towels they will soon outgrow those), rubbing alcohol for umbilical cord, a diaper bag with sample sizes of shampoo, Vaseline, diaper rash cream, lotion and wipes and diapers. Stock up on wipes - you'll use them for everything not just the baby's bottom, baby carrier that you strap around you and carry the baby on your chest, of course - car seat, stroller, swing. I know that with my first I stocked up on everything but didn't use half of it. I would get small amounts of things (except wipes) and get them as you need them - especially diapers because they can outgrow the sizes really quick the first couple months. Good Luck and Congrats!!!

The person above me mentioned humidifer - that is a must. Moist and cool sleeping enviroment is best for baby!!!!

Don't get powder unless it's the roll on kind. It has been shown to get in babies airways. Skip it you won't need it. Also baby washclothes are a rip off. Just use the adult kind. Try Swadlers diapers because there is already a cut out for the umb. cord. You need rubbing alcohol for the umb. cord area. Of course bottles, a crib or bassinet, a car seat. The orajel and teething toys can wait. Might want to get a baby tub. a hat. If you are breast feeding and even if not, some breasts pads for yourself. Trust me no one but you will think of that and leaking sucks.

Hi my bub is 11months and i took everything to hospital and i really didnt need half of it, all the bathing soaps ect are supplied by the hospital in the bathing area, you wont need toys of any discription just yet, they supply bottom sheets for crib but you will need blankets, well wraps because thats all they seem to put them in for the first little while, it helps them sleep as it makes them feel secure, burp cloth is a must as is nappies, the cotton tips they supply for use on cord ect, and a few all in one jump suits for sleeping in/ or gowns but other than that bum creams are optional as the baby will still be coated in special stuff from there birth which helps to protect there skin, dont forget bum wipes!!! good luck.

Rubbing alcohol (to clean the umbilical cord stump), lots of baby wipes. Infant Tylenol drops are good to have on hand, especially after any shots (your pediatrician can tell you the proper dosage for his weight). Aquafor or Eucerin is good for dry skin (works better than baby lotion). Baby hairbrush- brushing the hair and scalp helps with cradle cap. Bottle brush with nipple brush to clean the bottles out before sterilizing. Those are the only other things I can think of offhand.

Wipes, rubbing alcohol for belly button daily cleaning, thicker blankets not just receiving, pacifiers(not to be given until after 2-3wks if breastfeeding so baby doesn't get confused), bassinet, stroller, car seat to take baby home in, crib, HUMIDIFIER, baby bathtub of some sort, teething tablets are great for teething, be sure your thermometer is an anal one...best way to take baby temp. and most reliable for accuracy. grooming kit and healthcare kit, first-aide kit, poison control #, baby cpr certified, bottles, bibs.

For you: dermaplast(spray for down there, it really helps, put on as often as needed or after going potty,) heavy duty pads, wipes for your personal parts toilet paper sucks, nipple cream for nursing, Wash all baby and your clothes, bedding, towels in baby laundry detergent. Take lots of warm baths and remember to keep your patience and have lots of love and attention handy to give out when needed. GOOD LUCK

PS. Cetaphil lotion is really the best for babies.
