He is carrying 31.25 pounds of cars and has to pay $21.875.

100 cars @ 5 ounces each = 500 ounces
There are 16 ounces in a pound, so divide 500 by 16 = 31.25 pounds.
He pays $7 for every 10 pounds so divide 31.25 by 10 = 3.125 (that's how many 10 pounds he has) and multiply by $7 = $21.875

1 pound = 16 ounces
1 ounce = 1/16 pounds
5 ounces = 5/16 pounds
100 * 5 ounces = 500/16 = 125/4 pounds

He's carrying 31.25 lb of cars

He will pay $21 or $28 depending on whether he pays $7 for every full 10lb and parts of, or just full 10lbs

100*5 = 500 ounces
There are 16 ounces in one pound.
500/16 = 31.25 pounds
31.25/10 = 3.125
Round this up to 4.
4*7 = $28

100 cars x 5 oz. = 500 oz.

1 lb. is 16 oz., so we need to divide 500 by 16.
........ 31 r 4
16 ) 500
.......48
.........20
.........16
...........4

So the answer is 31 lbs 4 oz. (or 31 1/4 lbs or 31.25 lbs).

As for shipping, it really depends on whether he has to pay $7 for anything up to 10 lbs, or if he pays a partial amount if it is less.

If he has to pay for whole 10 lb. increments, he has to pay for 40 lbs. (4 x 10). 4 x $7 = $28.

If he pays a partial amount, then he pays $0.70 per pound.

31.25 * 0.70 = $21.875 or $21.88
