Get a red light so that you can see him but he can't see the light. Then use it during the day with your curtains drawn. He will think it's night and come out.

Many reptiles or crustacians are nocturnal, which means that they only come out at night as they would in their normal habitat. However, you can trick your crab into thinking its night when its only day. waht you should do is regulate the amount of light that receives per day and slowly decrease it and increase the amount of light that he receives at night. might sound confusing but thats what i did with my hermit crab.

I have 3 of them and they usually don't move around much at all. I have heard them at night though. When I clean their cage, I put them in my kitchen sink (don't forget to put the plug in). Then I fill their water dish and put them in there. They climb out, and crawl all around the sink. I like to think it's their excercise. I think the more you handle them the better that they are. If you have only one, you should really get another.
