Get a Nano if you want to use playlists to create programs that follow some sort of arc (e.g., slow for warmup, moving to faster songs for downhill), or if you like to be able to select specific songs, artists or albums.

Get a Shuffle if you just want to listen to random tunes and don't mind hitting "next tune" if something comes up that doesn't match your mood.

Both the Nano and the Shuffle are small and lightweight, with no moving disc. The Shuffle has no display, which allows it to be even tinier without shrinking the battery life.

A video iPod will feel bulky and heavy in the pocket of your parka, and it won't hold nearly as long a battery charge as either a Nano or Shuffle. You won't use the video iPod's video capabilities while you're snowboarding, and you won't need all that extra space for a single day's outdoor activity.

If you travel with your music library on a laptop, you can always swap new music onto a Shuffle or Nano in the evening. But with a 4G or 8G Nano, you'll get a lot of snowboarding in before you get bored with the music you have loaded up. Even 1G of music will last you all day.

I have a Nano but the new Microsoft Zune looks awesome. It's only $250 and can play videos and stores 30GB

ipod shuffle: if all you want is songs with out bells and whistles there is no screen. that's no fun
ipod nano: more interested in space saving
ipod video: holds alot of songs and plays video if that is all you are worried about

personally, go for IPOD VIDEO

if u r gonna go snowboarding with it i suggest u get neither... get the new shuffle (79$).. much smaller.. and it clips on to w/e...

but if u r gonna get a brand new pod i suggest u go for a 30 gig video... its my fav one (cuz its the one i own).
