Birth control is hormones. Everyone's body reacts differently, some people gain weight, some lose weight. Some grow unwanted hair and some lose hair. Just depends on the birthcontrol that you get prescribed to you. The lower the hormone amount, the least side effects. Ask about ortho-tri-cyclen lo or Yaz.

If your Mom feels she needs for you to be on birth control , then i am sure she has reasons of why. I have heard that some do make you gain a few pounds. which is better a few pounds with proteciton or really gain some weight for nine months and have a baby that your mom and you both apparently think your not ready for, this would be a job that you would have to handle for at least 18 yrs or more, of course i doubt if you would be worried about gaining a few pounds then. Take the pills and stop worrying about it.

Some people gain weight, while others don't. I never gained any weight while on birth control pills. talk to your dr when you go and express your concern about weight gain.

Also, IF you are a smoker be SURE to tell your doctor because of the risks (ex. blood clots)

I'm on birth control (pill) and I haven't gained any weight. I know of someone who is getting the birth control shots and she has gained weight. Just remember....everyone is different.

i looked at a bunch of studies, and weight gain is not really caused by birth control. turns out most people are always
gaining weight most of the time and tend to blame it on the pills.
trust me it's better than risking pregnancy.

I gained a lot of weight (about 20-25 pounds) on the depo shot, as did many of my friends. But, I got off of it and I lost it quick. I didn't gain anything on the pill though. I take ortho tri cyclen lo which had a low amount of horomones and has fewer side effects.

It can be different for all women. Tell your OB/GYN when you go for an appointment about your concern. He/She should be able to find you a birth control with a low dose of hormones.

Also, if your mother is concerned that you need to be on birth control, then maybe you should be. You sound young, don't jeopardize your future. Be smart about the decisions you make in life. Remember, mother (usually) knows best.

No, I lost weight. Some people do really well on the pill. Try it out and see how you like it because it certainly gives you peace of mind.
