Tom1941 has said them all.
Thank you for your speech.
How can you teach the people?
So, the bribery problem is still there. That is one of the reasons why I left Manila three decades ago. This is not to mention the abuses of the late Mr. Marcos. What is the Philippine government doing with the US Dollars (in billions, I supposed) that majority of the TNT or "entertainers" abroad are sending back home. Lately, so many doctors (Medicine) are accepting a nursing job here in the US. Why is this happening? Also, there are many "mail bride" coming from the Philippines. Whose fault is this? They are being abused here and forced to accept menial jobs. I met many of them in the mall although they do not talk about their embarrassing experiences. One can read about their misfortune only in the News. From my own experience, women indulged themselves in some kind of prostitution not solely in sex. They look at the US dollar ($) sign as if it is the only light at the end of the tunnel. I am not referring to those professionals (college graduates) who are employed all over the nation because they are an asset to the United States.

Sorry but I have to correct your grammer before I answer..The correct question should be"what is the worst thing in the Philippines?". Here's my answer:

The worst thing here today is having a president like Gloria(GMA). If the president is good , the citizen's will follow, at least for majority. There will be no guerilla, no traffic, no flooding, no killings, rape, no corruption in the government. All the peoples taxes will be used for government projects to improve the economy, Filipinos will not go to abroad anymore. The Philippines will be the center of commerce and tourism in the world, I know we are very capable of that if we have a good president.

In the family, if the chidlren becomes drug addict, prostitute, its the father mostly that gets the blame because he runs the family. In a bus accident, the drivers gets the blame.you know what I mean..

The worst thing in the Philippines is a lot of the people blame everything bad that happens in the country on the President in order not to have to accept any responsibility for themselves.

It is ridiculous to believe that a "good" President could prevent robberies, rapes, murders, etc. in any country, but as you have seen by one of the respondents to this question there are some in the Philippines that are willing to believe that in order to make someone else responsible for taking care of them and solving their problems. Anyone that comes along that makes PROMISES (even unrealistic promisies) to take care of all their problems and PROMISES a quick fix they vote for them regardless of qualifications.

I have lived in the Philippines for four years and I have not seen 9 inch roaches. In fact I have seen far fewer roaches in the Philippines than I have seen in Florida and Texas. I would think the Philippines is like any other place the number of roaches depends on the indiviuals personal living space. In Texas Orkin came once a month to spray for roaches and in the Philippines I have had only one small can of bug spray for over a year and have seen two roaches.

Pollution is a legitimate complaint especially in Manila, Baugio and Cebu. I lived in Manila for two years and spent 41 days in 2005 in the hospital with lung problems. At the advise of my doctor I moved to Davao to escape the pollution. This morning my Housekeeper who is extremely clean showed me the handkerchief used to wipe presperation from her face yesterday while in town and it was black which shows even Davao has pollution from vehicles. The garbage you find on the streets, sidewalks and rivers in Manila could easily be prevented if the people would accept responsibility for their litter and not expect the governement (President) to do it for them. Manila does not have to be one huge garbage dump.

I would not advise anyone to drink the water that comes direct from public lines, but this is not unsual in most countries around the world. You generally do not expect drinking water from the faucets except in highly developed First World Countries. Bottle water is readily available and you can boil water. It would be a blessing if the water was the worst problem that faced the Philippines.

Corruption (politician and people), pollution, economic/government stability are all problems in the Philippines and ultimately the people themselves are responsible for it all. The people should be setting the example and not depending on government to force correct behaviour upon them. The people should follow the laws of the land and the Constitution instead of acting immature and taking to the streets to over throw and Administration when things do not go their way. No one will ever like all the laws that a country has on the books, but a society only prospers and grows with order and order comes with obeying laws.

One only needs to wait in line for a taxi, elevator, at McDonalds or at the bank and you will see how some in the Philippines believe rules do not apply to them. It would be far more difficult to fine a citizen of the Philippine that has not offered a Traffic Enforcer, Government Employee, etc a bribe to get out of paying a fine or to get ahead of everyone else waiting for a permit than to find someone that has not offered a bribe.

For me the worst problem in the Philippines is the unwillingness of the people to take personal responsibility for their actions. This unwillingness to do so creates 90% of all the other problems. I am sorry but saying "I am sorry" a hundred times a day when YOU CHOOSE not follow the rules and act rude is not going to solve the problems in the Philippines.
